Washington state’s new public policy concerning firearm ownership was signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee April 25, 2023 and prohibits the future sale, distribution, manufacture and import of more than 50 types of firearms including rifles that fire one bullet per trigger pull and automatically reload for a subsequent shot. The measure does not bar the possession of the newly prohibited guns by people who already own them. The legal text indicates that gun owners can retain “assault weapons” they currently own. The new law does give gun owners the ability to also sell their “assault weapons” to a “licensed retailer” who can sell them out of state.
