Ruger Standard Model Pistol
The Ruger Standard Model pistol was the first pistol designed and produced by Ruger and introduced in 1949. This pistol put Ruger on the map as a manufacturer of inexpensive and reliable guns. The outward appearance of the Ruger Standard Model resembles a Luger, but the mechanism in the Standard Model is totally different. The original Ruger Standard Model pistol had a red eagle grip medallion and was available in a standard 4-3/4 inch barrel or a 6-7/8 inch target version. Since these pistols were produced before restrictive gun laws were enacted, they could be purchased and shipped in the mail. The original Ruger Standard Model was shipped in a wood box similar to what was used to package salted cod. With this “salt cod” box, the Standard Model is very valuable. A Ruger Standard Model has an average value between $290 and $360. Contact us at cashmyguns.com to find out if you have an original Ruger Standard Model pistol.
